What can an OBD2 scanner tell you?
An OBD2 code reader can retrieve engine and emissions-related diagnostic trouble codes from supported vehicles. Depending on the tool and vehicle, it may also show live data, freeze-frame information, vehicle information and emissions readiness status.
What should you check before buying?
Confirm the vehicle year, make, model, engine and sales market. Do not assume a basic OBD2 tool supports ABS, airbags/SRS, transmission, diesel, heavy-duty, hybrid, EV or every manufacturer-specific module unless that coverage is explicitly listed.
A trouble code identifies a system or condition to investigate; it does not prove which part needs replacement. Clearing a code does not repair the underlying fault.
